[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”2017-18″ color=”black” border_width=”2″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”17334651″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Kyle Won – As a freshman, Kyle was a standout swimmer among KAIAC and YISS swimmers. He set multiple YISS records and stole 2 KAIAC records in this historic season.
For YISS, Kyle broke school records in all events in which he swam. These included 50 Free (26.19), 100 Free (56.02), 200 Free (2:01.73), 400 Free (4:16.56), 50 Back (28.9), 100 Back (1:00.94), 200 Back (2:13.05), 100 IM (1:02.06), 200 IM (2:15.43). He also swam on the record-holding 200 Medley Relay team (1:58.8). Kyle earned the team MVP award as a result of his efforts.
In the broader KAIAC scene, Kyle broke two records. He swam a 1:00.94 in the 100 M Backstroke and a 4:17.17 in the 400 M Free. Both of these records had stood for years at the top of the league before Kyle took them. He earned all-conference and all-tournament honors, as well has MVP in both the mid-season and final meet. Finally, he earned High Point Winner in the championship meet, setting him apart as the best swimmer in the league.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3326521″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Soo Lee – Soo’s senior year can only be described in terms of expectations met. For both of her sports, basketball and soccer, she returned as a captain and clear leader of the team.
For basketball, Soo took on the role of floor leader once again as the starting point guard. She dished out 54 assists on the season and had 88 steals, leading the team in both categories. She also passed Hana Ikeda to take 2nd all-time in career steals at 397. She was once again team MVP for the season, and earned KAIAC all-conference and all-tournament honors, taking them to the championship game in the tournament. She also earned all-ACSC honors for her play in Malaysia.
Soo’s soccer season was, once again, one in which she had to carry a heavy load. After some devastating injuries to other key players, tournament time would look to be trying for the girls, but Soo stepped up as the leader and took the team to the KAIAC finals. This grit and heart earned her team MVP and Guardian awards, KAIAC all-conference and all-tournament awards, and ACSC all-tournament honors. Her leadership of the team as a whole, though, was reflected most in the fact that girls soccer won the sportsmanship award for both KAIAC and ACSC tournaments.
Finally, as a capstone to her career, Soo earned the KAIAC-wide recognition as the Donald Hedgpath Female Athlete of the Year recipient for here 2nd year in a row. This award recognizes the athlete’s performance and leadership on the field, but also off the field in areas of service and academics.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”2016-17″ color=”black” border_width=”2″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3180495″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Corban Remsburg – Although Corban was only a Sophomore, he had a tremendous year in athletics. He played volleyball and basketball as a starter and major contributor.
In volleyball, Corban led the team in kills (204) and blocks (99, School Record). He was selected to the KAIAC all-conference and all-tournament teams and received the KAIAC Best Hitter of the Tournament. Corban also helped the boys’ team win their first ever ACSC tournament championship
In basketball, Corban was the center of the team’s strategy both offensively and defensively. He led the team in points (385), assists (45) and steals (76) and was 2nd in rebounds (130). These accomplishments earned him the team MVP award. He also was selected to the KAIAC all-conference and all-tournament teams for the year.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3326521″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Soo Lee – As a junior, Soo was a stand-out leader on both teams she captained, basketball and soccer. She was starting point guard for basketball and attacking mid-fielder for soccer, but her leadership is what really made her outstanding.
In basketball, Soo led the team in points (254), assists (114) and steals (176, School Record). She was the team MVP, and she earned spots on the KAIAC all-conference and all-tournament teams as well as the ACSC all-tournament team.
In soccer, Soo controlled the midfield and the offense. She led the team in both goals (14) and assists (7). She earned the team Coach’s Award for her display of leadership on the field. She was selected to the KAIAC all-conference and all-tournament teams.
Soo’s greatest feat, however, was the honor she received from KAIAC at the end of the school year. Soo was awarded the Donald Hedgpath Female Athlete of the Year for the whole league of 17 international and Dodea schools. This honor includes statistical criteria as well as academics, service, and leadership.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_text_separator title=”2015-16″ color=”black” border_width=”2″][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”6313486″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Josh Minsup Kim – Josh was a senior when he received the Athlete of the Year award. He played 3 varsity sports that year: volleyball, basketball, and soccer. Although volleyball was his “main” sport, his leadership was clear in all 3.
During the 15-16 season, Josh received KAIAC all-conference honors and the ACSC Best Defender award. Josh led the volleyball team as a captain as well as statistically in aces (73), kills (212) and digs (132 *broke school record). He also broke the school career ace (118) and dig (173) records. He received the team MVP award two years in a row for volleyball.
On the basketball team, Josh was a starting guard and led the team as a captain and also received the Spirit Award for the team.
While he only played soccer this one year, he earned the respect of the team as the back-up keeper. Even though he had this minor role, he earned the team Spirit Award because of his exceptional leadership abilities.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”6313485″ img_size=”medium” alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]
Hana Ikeda – Hana was one of the best female athletes in Guardian history. She played 3 varsity sports (volleyball, basketball, soccer) in all of her 4 years at YISS.
As the captain and starting setter for volleyball, she led the team in aces (103) and assists (387 *school record). She gained all-conference, all-tournament, and all-ACSC honors, leading them to their first ever KAIAC conference title and to the championship match at ACSC. She ended her volleyball career as the career leader in aces (378) and assists (1,211).
Hana also captained the basketball team her senior year, starting as point guard. She led the team in scoring (303), assists (92), and steals (128) and was the sole recipient of all-conference, all-tournament, and ACSC best defender honors, while earning team MVP.
On the soccer team, Hana was the directing presence in the mid-field, which earned her the Guardian Award on the team. Hana led the team in assists (6) and also contributed 6 goals on the year. She received all-conference honors for the season.

Although it was just his first year playing volleyball, he led the team in kills (75, tied with Josh Kim) and blocks (45). But Xavier’s real talent and passion was for basketball.
As a sophomore, he exploded onto the KAIAC scene, leading the YISS team in all facets. He shattered the school record for points with 611 (117 more than the previous record), including a single-game record of 52 points. He also led the team in assists (67), rebounds (270), and steals (84). He earned KAIAC all-conference and all-tournament honors. He ended the season with a spectacular performance at ACSC, earning Top Gun for the tournament, averaging 23 points per game.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]Hana Ikeda – Hana was one of the best female athletes in Guardian history. She played 3 varsity sports (volleyball, basketball, soccer) in all of her 4 years at YISS.
In this her junior year, Hana led the team in both aces (124 *school record) and assists (270). She earned KAIAC all-tournament and all-ACSC honors, helping the girls win their first-ever KAIAC tournament championship. She received the team Coach’s Award.
In basketball, Hana led the team in points (249), assists (62) and steals (96). She was the only YISS representative on the all-conference, all-tournament, and all-ACSC teams and was the team MVP.
For soccer, Hana was a steady presence in the mid-field, contributing 5 goals and 5 assists in the course of the season, earning the team Coach’s Award. Justin Kang – Justin was a key starter and captain for the volleyball team his senior year. While he didn’t lead the team in stats in any one category, he contributed from every angle, 2nd for the team in aces, kills, digs, and assists. He earned all-conference, all-tournament, and all-ACSC in an impressive season for the Guardians (2nd in KAIAC season and tournament and 3rd in ACSC). Justin also earned the Guardian Award for the team.
On the basketball team, Justin was the starting point guard, leading a strong squad to a successful season. On a team of scorers, Justin was the glue the kept them working together as a team. Through his leadership, the team ended up 3rd for the KAIAC season and tournament. This leadership, and a team-leading 68 assists, earned him the team Coach’s Award.

Emily led the cheer squad as a captain and was a key factor in expanding their involvement in the pep rallies throughout the year. She earned a spot on the all-KAIAC team, for the 3rd consecutive year and helped the team to a 3rd place overall finish. She was also the team MVP for the 2nd straight year.
On the soccer team, Emily had a phenomenal season. She was a key offensive player on a team that won the regular season and reached the final of the KAIAC tournament. She scored 8 goals and assisted 11 times on the season and earned the team MVP. She also earned all-conference and all-tournament honors for KAIAC.
