Yoyoyo. This is Coach Hale coming at you… with another edition of the sports report.
There was a home swim meet Saturday, and I do not have details on our performance there.
The girls’ soccer team carried their momentum from the SIS win into Wednesday nights game in an absolute battle at TCIS. Freshmen Jane Warren managed to clear the ball off the line to keep the game 0-0 at the half. Late in the second half Soo Lee broke away from the chaos and managed to grab the game winning goal! Well done Lady Guardians! On Saturday the girls faced SFS and played in a very tight match. Both teams were able to create several chances, but the first half remained 0-0. After the game continued to go back and forth, SFS scored with only 15 minutes to go. Our girls continued to fight to try and find a equalizer with some standout performances from Jane Kim and Hana Ikeda, but ended up conceding a late goal despite our efforts. The lady guardians get a rematch on Friday!
The Varsity Boys conference season got under way last Wednesday as they traveled to Daejeon to take on TCIS. The first half went back and forth with neither team able to put the ball in the net. In the second half, positional discipline, hard work, and endurance allowed the boys to come out victorious 2-0. Terry lee got the Guardians on the score board with a right foot shot that beat the goaltender at the 55 minute mark, and Pablo Yuste skillfully outmaneuvered TCIS defenders and goalie at the top of the 18 yrd. box, and flicked one in for the second goal late in the half.
On Saturday the Boys faced SFS in their first home game. Both teams played hard in the first half which ended in a 2-2 tie. YISS Goals were scored by Hannes Schwedhelm, with a beautiful header off a crossing ball, and Shutaro Husumi who put one in from 35 yrd out. Unfortunately the boys could not keep up with the team from Seoul Foreign and took a 4-2 loss.
This week we travel to SFS Friday and host Daegu on Saturday. Let’s go Guardians! This has been Coach Hale…and…I’m…OUT.
