The 2009-2010 season looked to be a very promising season for the Guardians, who had been knocking at the gates of the championship 3 years running. With David Kim (DK), Jamie Ha and Tamas Lengyel as the senior leaders, hopes were high. The guys started off slow, losing close games to TCIS and SAHS, but they would really start coming together at the end of the season. The tournament was much anticipated around the league, as it looked to be a showdown between the Guardians and cross-town champs, the SFS Crusaders. The guys had never beaten SFS in soccer, and were looking to accomplish that feat in the championship game of the tournament. The guys cruised through their first two opponents, but that was not the case for the struggling Crusaders. They lost in the semi-finals to an always tough SIS squad by one goal. It was a shocker; nevertheless, the Guardians had made it to the finals and would not be denied. They defeated the Tigers in the championship game 7-0 to take their first ever Division I KAIAC championship. DK tore apart the defense, scoring one goal and assisting in 4 others. It was a perfect ending to his high school career and a perfect last game for departing head coach John Peters.
