The YISS boy’s varsity soccer had an undefeated run in ACSC, clenching the champion spot after plowing through Grace International School with a 3-1 win in the finals.
YISS was down 0-1 in the first half, but eventually gained momentum after an equalizer by Scott Lim (junior). Terry Lee (sophomore) and Antonio Oh (junior) scored additional goals and crystallized victory.
Previous victims of the team’s unstoppable bulldozing spree include Faith, DALAT (group stages), and ICS-HK (semi-finals). The team scored three goals in every game they played.
At the award ceremony following the tournament, three YISS players were awarded all-tournament honors. Jordan Hudson received the golden glove award, which is awarded to the best goalkeeper of the tournament. Terry Lee received the golden boot for scoring the most goals in the tournament, with a total of four. Scott Lim was chosen as the tournament MVP.
YISS, Grace International, ICS-HK, GSIS, Faith, DALAT, and Morrison were the participants in this year’s ACSC, which was hosted by YISS.
Compared to last year, in which the team finished 5th out of seven teams, the team had considerably more success in this year’s ACSC. Some players offered explanations as to how this year’s tournament was different.
“To be honest, the main key to our success was to applaud each other with the talents each had,” said Junior Oh (senior), who captains the team along with John Gong (senior) and Hogun Lee (junior). “This season, we proved to everyone that in order to achieve something, communication and persistency is needed. The three weeks of intense training and strategizing paid off with us becoming the champions.”
“Because the tournament was hosted in YISS, I think as a team we were more determined to win,” said Fred Nam (senior), a player who was unable to play due to injuries.
