Sports Report, April 11, 2016

What up what up. This is Coach Hale coming at you… with another edition of the sports report.

After defeating SAHS 4-2 on Wednesday, the Lady Guardians faced a strong Osan side on Thursday and went behind early in the game. The girls fought hard but could not gain momentum to create a comeback and ended up losing 0-3. This loss snapped a 7-game win streak (longest in program history for conference games).

But, the Lady Guardians responded on Saturday to claim a hard-fought victory against TCIS. The team consistently battled and found a way to secure the win through clever goals from Soo Lee and Hana Ikeda with a 2-1 final score. The win guaranteed 2nd place in conference and sets up an epic finale for the girls to potentially claim 1st in their last game of the season! Whoa! If you see a girls’ soccer player today, give them a high-five, fist bump, or sing ‘The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round’ to them!

The boys’ team also beat SAHS Wednesday, 1-0. They followed up that win with another one Thursday at Osan. The guys were riding high coming in to Saturday’s game vs TCIS. But they couldn’t quite stay on that horse, dropping that match with a flurry of TCIS goals in the 2nd half.

The swim team competed Wednesday at Chadwick and represented us well there.

In track news, 11 track and field athletes competed in the Mike Petty Invitational on Friday in Okinawa, Japan. In the first competition of the season, all of the athletes performed well and were mentally tough as many participated in four events in extremely hot and humid weather, with the meet lasting 9 hours. Official results have not been released yet, but here are some highlights: freshmen Talei Kau – 1st in the varsity shot put, senior Micahel Kraft – 6th in varsity shot put, Girls 4x400m (Karla Grandy, Alice Kim, Suna Cha, and Julia Badgley) – 3rd place, only 1 second behind Morrison Academy. The team is excited to compete in the upcoming KAIAC meets on April 23, 30, and May 7!

This week the soccer teams have friendlies at GSIS on Friday and home vs Dwight on Saturday. Saturday is Senior Day for the soccer teams. Hope to see you there. The swim teams will also travel to Chadwick on Wednesday for their last regular meet of the season. Let’s go Guardians! This has been Coach Hale…and…I’m…OUT.
