After a tough loss Friday, the Lady Guardians faced Dwight on Saturday and won in resounding fashion to celebrate our phenomenal senior class. The Guardians opened scoring with fantastic build up play in a cross from Kyla Swanson to Soo Lee. The Guardians continued to find ways to break Dwight down with two goals from Senior Jane Kim, two goals from senior June Sohn, and goals from Amelia Tang, Jordan Jackson, and Kyla Swanson. Thanks to our seniors (June, Hana, Kyla, Suzy, and Jane) for your wonderful leadership and the legacy you are leaving with this team! The girls now look to continue this momentum as they head out tomorrow morning for ACSC Tournament in Guam! Biba Guardians!
This past weekend was a mixed bag for the boy’s varsity soccer squad. On Friday an away game at Gyeonggi Suwon International School proved to be a difficult battle. After a closely played first half that ended in a 0-0 score, the boys faltered and a series of quick goals against made it 3-0. The Guardians were unable to mount any attack and lost the game 4-0. It was their second consecutive 4-0 drubbing. Not coincidently their defensive struggles directly followed a season ending injury to senior Capt., and defensive stalwart, Hogan Lee.
On Saturday, senior day, the Guardians went back to the drawing board in an effort to beef-up a defense that had given up 8 second half goals in two games. This comes after having given up a total of 3 goals in its previous 7 matches. A change in their formation seemed to pay immediate dividends against Dwight. The lone striker Terry Lee struck for three goals, and Pablo Yuste banged one in after an unbelievable show of hustle, speed and determination by Jong-ho Lee who picked up the assist. Senior Chinu Kang, playing in his last home game, blistered one in late to give the Boys a 5-0 lead. Fellow Senior goalkeeper Josh Kim shut down the opposition until a penalty shot in the final minute spoiled what would have been his 4th shut-out of the year.
A shout out to all of the Boys Varsity Soccer Team’s Seniors who wrapped up their careers at home on Saturday.
