Yoyoyo. This is Coach Hale coming at you… with a pre-tournament edition of the sports report.
The Track & Field Team traveled to it’s first KAIAC meet at Humphrey’s this past Saturday. It was the first time for many members to compete in a variety of events and the coaches were proud of strong efforts by all competitors. We had many athletes place in the top 10 against 5 other schools. 100m – Andy Kung (6th), Talei Kau (7th), 200m – Talei Kau (8th), 400m – Karla Grandy (4th, with a 7 second improvement), 800m – Andy Kung (7th), 300m Hurdles – Mya Diffin (3rd), Mile – Josh Swanson (9th), Mya Diffin (9th), Alice Kim (10th), Shotput – Talei Kau (4th). They will travel to another meet on Saturday. Keep it up track!
The girls are back in town! The Lady Guardians are back from the ACSC Tournament. The tournament was hosted at St. Paul Christian School in Guam and featured seven teams from all around Asia. The girls played extremely well and finished the round-robin 2-2-1 to fight for 3rd place. The team faced a strong Dalat side who they tied in the round robin. The girls would dictate the game but fell back 0-1 in the second half. With only 8 seconds remaining in the game, June Sohn hit a screamer from outside the box to tie it up at the death! Mr. Creech had to keep Selah off the field from celebrating. It was that crazy! With extra time remaining scoreless, the game would go to a penalty shoot-out. The girls clawed back from an 0-2 start and sent the penalties to sudden death only for them to fall short in the 7th round! The girls fought extremely hard and did us proud! Our 4th place finish marks our highest ACSC finish for our girls program! Well done Lady Guardians!
All Tournament selections: June Sohn + Soo Lee
Best Defender (for the entire tournament!): Suzy Kim
The soccer teams take on SAHS Wednesday. The girls are fighting it out for 1st and the boys for 3rd before the KAIAC tournaments this weekend. The girls’ tournament will be right here at YISS. And the boys tournament will be at SFS. The swimming championships will also be held at SFS. Those swimmers are tapering this week, so don’t touch them. They are fragile. Good luck to all the teams this week!
Let’s go Guardians! This has been Coach Hale…and…I’m…OUT.
