The lady Guardians soccer team went to battle against the Crusaders on Friday in an epic match. The Guardians were awarded an indirect free-kick right on top of the box during the first 20 minutes. Hana Ikeda rolled the ball to June Sohn who ‘bent it better than Beckham’ into the top right corner, a shot not even the legendary Shu Ikeda could have saved, to give the Guardians the lead. The Guardians would stick together, sliding, tackling, and throwing their bodies all over the field the rest of the match, with freshman Jane Warren making her trademark goal line clearance at one point. Brigitte Lee would make some key world-class saves as well, helping the girls hold on to win the game 1-0. The Lady Guardians make ‘yisstory’ by winning for the first time against SFS on their own field!!!
On Saturday, the girls began straight away against DAHS by scoring 5 first half goals. The Guardians were able to continue and finish off the game with contributions from everyone on the team. Goals were scored by June Sohn (3), Soo Lee (1), Kyla Swanson (with her left foot), Jane Kim, and Asia Yi.
The varsity Boys soccer team suffered two losses over the weekend. On Friday, the boys traveled to SFS to take on the Crusaders. Seoul foreign got off to a quick start and went up 1-0 within the first 5 minutes. Although a few opportunities arose to get on the board the Guardians were not able to so, and had to deal with a 5-0 loss.
Hoping to bounce back on Saturday, the boys played at home vs. DHS. An early goal was called back due to keeper interference, and this seemed to set the tone for 80 minutes of missed opportunities and close calls. The boys went into halftime up 1-0 after a nice finish by Hannes Schwedhelm. Although they dominated play, and plenty of opportunities arose, the Guardians could not find the back of the net in the 2nd half and suffered a, hard to swallow, 2-1 defeat.
This week we will host OAHS Wednesday and Humphreys on Thursday. Let’s go Guardians! This has been Coach Hale…and…I’m…OUT.
